Entomology Collection

Insects from Northeast Texas and the Big Bend for most of the 85,000-specimen entomology collection. Of particular importance is the hymenoptera collection, "Shinners’ Bees", which contains host plant information and insect behavior associated with the specimens collected by the late SMU botanist Lloyd Shinners.

The lepidoptera are strong in the butterflies of Dallas county, collected in the 1930’s and 50’s by A.A. Brown. A small arachnid collection and isopod collection is also maintained by the Museum.
