Passport to Summer!

The Museum of Nature & Science Discovery Camp Jr. is your ticket to summertime fun! Become an archeologist and discover clues about ancient cultures. Journey to far away lands. Or go on a tropical island exploration. With plenty of hands-on activities and projects, Discovery Camp Jr. brings learning to life in half-day sessions designed just for children ages 3-4. Plus, you’ll discover how kids around the world are not much different than you! From printmaking to sculpting and painting, it’s a time for learning, exploring, and of course, letting your imagination run wild!

Session Details

Discovery Camp Jr. is drop-off, half-day program uniquely designed with age-appropriate activities and experiences for children ages 3-4. Sessions run for one week from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Weekly Topics

Week 1, June 15-19: Roman Adventure - SOLD OUT
Explore the ancient city of Pompeii! Compare life in ancient Roman life to life today. Discover ancient Roman architecture and the great volcano of Mt. Vesuvius. Plus, create your own replicas of artifacts found in the ruins of the villas of Pompeii!

Week 2, July 6-10: Meet the Greeks - SOLD OUT
Explore what it was like growing up in ancient Greece! What kinds of pet and toys did they have? What did they eat? Hear about myths and legends of Greek gods and goddesses and become an Olympian in our very own mini Olympics! Plus, you’ll learn more about Greek architecture and artifacts through fun, hands-on projects.

Week 3, July 20-24: East Meets West - SOLD OUT
Join us as we dive into everything from ancient myths of golden dragons to papermaking, pandas, and people! Journey through ancient Japan and explore China on an imaginary walk along the winding path of The Great Wall! And uncover Japan’s history through hands-on experiences in “Koinobori” (Carp kite) and “Hina-ningyo” (Ceremonial dolls) and engage in a fun “Tea Ceremony.” It’s a journey like no other!

Week 4, July 27-30: Carved in Stone - SOLD OUT
Can you imagine a time when people did not live in houses or have electricity, TV, video games, or roads? Venture back to a time when there were only mountains and trees! Imagine you’re an explorer uncovering the ancient caves of Lascaux, France. Create replicas of cave drawings and learn about the importance of animals in ancient times, while discovering the science of geology. Trust us, it rocks!

Week 5, August 3-7: Island Hopping - SOLD OUT
Take an imaginary voyage to the South Pacific! Find out what it was like to be an ancient voyager and how they got from here…to there! Learn all about islands then set sail to explore everything from the fascinating sea creatures of the low island coral reefs to the high island vegetation and volcanoes!

Week 6, August 10-14: Wilds of Madagascar - SOLD OUT
Take a “wild journey” off the east coast of Africa to the coastal Rainforests of Madagascar. Venture inside a rain forest to learn all about how they house unique animal life and the world’s most beautiful flowers and rainforest trees! Have fun discovering this mysterious land while creating your own rainforest diorama, jungle prints, and more!
