Discovery Camp at the Museum of Nature & Science is unlike any other. From June through August, each week is a different topic and destination for campers. Go back in time, journey underground, delve into watery wonderlands, look at the very, very big, sneak a peek at the tiniest of them all, and seek out the science that surrounds us everywhere. And did we mention the one-of-a-kind crafts, experiments, and activities packed into each day?
Camp sessions are uniquely designed with age appropriate activities and experiences for specific age groups to maximize your child’s experience. Use this handy grid to help you plan your child’s summer fun.

You know dinosaurs are big—but how big? And what did they have for snacks? Walk in the footsteps of these giants of the past and get the chance to help our paleontologists dig for clues!
Discover why where you live affects what you do—even if you’re a snake, spider, or sloth! Curious minds are sure to be fascinated by learning how animals adapt to their varying habitats.
Water, water everywhere—but why is it there? Get a little wet behind the ears and learn all about the water as you ponder puddles, ponds, oceans, and more!
See how everyday ingredients can be used to create light and color—and it’s all chemistry. You’ll also develop a certain element of creativity as you make stained glass glue, a chemistry collage, invisible ink, and color-changing potions.
Use your mind to travel back in time—and all around the world! Discover how ancient cultures like the Romans, Mayans, and others used science to help create great societies. Activities include making a model volcano, creating an ancient coin, and much more!
Galileo, Archimedes, Mayans, and more! Throughout history, cultures that have embraced science and technology have created amazing civilizations all over the world. Now, you can learn what it might have been like to be a part of an ancient society on the brink of discovery. You’ll even get the chance to compete in a mini-Olympic challenge!
What’s bigger than big—or smaller than small? Build it, bend it, break it—we’ll do it all! Get hands-on as we explore macro and micro worlds.
Geysers. Volcanoes. Lightning. Tornadoes. Our planet and atmosphere are capable of some pretty amazing natural phenomena from geologic formations to weather patterns. Get hands-on and discover what’s possible when the forces of nature are unleashed!
How does recycling work? Why do animals go extinct? What are the things that I can do? You hear about green technology and protecting the planet all the time—but now’s your chance to become a good steward of the planet by going green. You’ll even get to express your “eco” side by transforming recycled materials into a work of art!
Train your mind to explore and unlock the mysteries of the physical world and the science behind them. Counter friction and gravity with levers and pulleys, test your own physically inspired designs, and see how the interaction of forces affect everyday events—even the sports that you play!
Stalactites or stalagmites? Venture into the underground world of caves to find out how they’re formed. You’ll also meet some of the unusual creatures that call these caves home and discover how technology can be used to teach us even more!
Water—where does it come from and what does it do? Find out as you explore the incredible cycles of puddles, ponds, oceans, and more! There are certain to be many watershed moments.
Make a robot and take it for many extraordinary test drives while you’re here! Local engineering students will help you use LEGO® Mindstorms NXT kits to create a robot that can “sing,” play soccer, follow a racecourse, and pick up objects all on its own. Additional costs apply.

You’re pretty good with a computer or a cell phone—but what about conquering the elements? Learn what it really takes to survive in the wild and how certain creatures are even better at it than us. Get ready—it’s a jungle out there!
Did you know that the world has many different environmental communities—just like it’s divided into countries and cities? See how where an animal lives affects everything it does and even how it looks!
Before and after care provide a fun and safe experience for campers who need to arrive before 9:30am or stay after 3pm.
